September President’s Message

MPIOttawa Feature Article
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, it’s not Christmas, but rather back to school. Not only does it mean buying stationary products and clothes for those of us with school-aged children, it also signifies a return to routine—getting back into a weekly schedule of work, volunteering, and extracurriculars. It may not be the official New Year, but I find that September is a time of new beginnings and opportunities. For MPI Ottawa, September truly marks the beginning of the program year. Although our board has been hard at work over the summer to get programming in place, we will now begin to see the fruits of the committees’ labour. Take a moment to check out our events calendar and take advantage of the upcoming meetings. If you don’t already, be sure to follow us on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram) to stay up to date on all Chapter activities.

We all remember the excitement of back to school, whether it was the anticipation of new classes, new friends or new experiences. I was very fortunate this August to have been the recipient of one of the FMAV scholarships for the Event Design Certificate program that was held at Ryerson University in Toronto. I immersed myself for three days in the #eventcanvas process and am now on my way to earning my CED accreditation. It was a wonderful experience where I met other chapter leaders and hospitality professionals from across Canada and around the world. I am always looking for ways to learn new things and grow professionally. This certainly checked all the boxes. It would not have been possible without the support and offerings of the MPI Foundation.

Not only do members have access to the MPI Foundation Grants and Scholarships, but did you know that MPI offers a full catalogue of on-demand and virtual education offerings through the MPI Academy?

Why not enjoy this wonderful time of year by trying something new? Identify what sparks your interest, and go for it. You will never get bored if you are always learning! And on that note, I invite everyone to join us September 14 at the Annual General Meeting to learn about everything that was accomplished by MPI Ottawa in 2016-17.

Happy September!
