MPI Ottawa Volunteer Testimonials

Committees: Community Outreach and CSR; Strategic Education

I joined the Community Outreach & CSR Committee to engage with my industry colleagues and give back to our community. Whether we are raising funds through MPI Ottawa events or donating our time on location, I am always proud of the work we do to support local charities. I have also made many wonderful connections through my volunteer activities. Volunteering allows me to not only connect with, but also support my fellow industry professionals. I co-facilitate MPI Ottawa’s CMP Boot Camp and the online CMP Study Group because I enjoy helping others achieve their educational goals. It is very rewarding to play even just a small role in others’ successes. MPI Ottawa’s dedicated members make all the difference and I am glad to volunteer alongside them.

Committees: Community Outreach and CSR; Member Programming

For many years, I have volunteered for the Community Outreach and Member Programming Committees. I have met so many great people and I have been able to do a lot of meaningful work. When you combine the networking aspect of the committees with the value they bring to the city and to MPI Ottawa, being on a committee is an important aspect of the association for me.

Committees: Member Awards and Recognition; Student Liaison Subcommittee, Member Care

When I graduated from the Events Management program at Algonquin, I knew I wanted to get involved in the events industry. I wanted opportunities to network and meet fellow industry professionals in the city. Volunteering for MPI Ottawa has not only been great in helping me broaden my network, but it has been great to give back and gain invaluable knowledge about a profession I love. I started volunteering on the Awards and Recognition Committee and have been on this Committee for three years now. I am also a part of the Student Liaison Subcommittee, which is associated with the Member Care Committee. It is great to connect with current event management students and get them involved. I also write articles for Conventus – it is fun writing about different topics that are relevant to our industry. MPI Ottawa has not only been beneficial for me professionally, but I have made amazing friendships and have been able to work with people I may not have been able to otherwise. I can’t wait to see where my experience with MPI Ottawa takes me and I look forward to continue meeting and connecting with fellow industry professionals.

Committee: Member Programming

When I joined MPI Ottawa in 2001 as a federal government planner, it was suggested that I get involved in the Chapter by volunteering on a committee and to register for the MPI study group to obtain my CMP. I followed up on both suggestions! I was used to volunteering, as I have volunteered in Ottawa for many organizations and charities for over 30 years. As a member of the Ottawa Chapter of MPI, I have served as a member of the Awards Committee for many years, wrote a number of articles for the Chapter’s previous Communiqué publication, served on the Board in the previous role as Secretary, and most recently was a Member of the Nominations Committee. When you engage and contribute to the Chapter, you have the opportunity to meet and work with various planners and suppliers, while benefiting from their knowledge and experience. Membership in any organization increases in value the more you get involved.
