Understanding Event Technical Direction – It’s Just Rocket Science! Managing the Audio Visual Experience (EIC Domain G: Meeting or Event Design)
The Live Event Technical Director is responsible for launching the audience into an audio visual experience that can have dozens or even hundreds of moving parts. From managing talent, to the technical know-how you’ll learn how to interact with the onsite AV engineers, talent, producers or event planners, and the audience to create and manage the perfect live event and bring everyone safely back to earth. You’ll “speak the talk” and use real and relevant examples from recent events involving Presidents, CEOs, entertainers and keynote speakers. By working in teams we’ll build a show flow, anticipate challenges, manage timelines, and learn how to interact with the talented engineers behind the behind the scenes. In the final hour we’ll build worst-case-scenarios where we will build a strategy to adjust our event in real-time so no audience member is the wiser. How do you immerse yourself and your attendees in multi-sensory experience they’ll never forget? Can you elevate your event to the next level by adding the simple element of Technical Direction? Can YOU be a technical director for your own event or do you just want to understand what it takes to be a technical director and work with an AV team that takes it to the next level. By transforming “Standard AV” to a full production level of engagement we take the audience on a rocket ship ride into a weightless environment where the experience can literally cause them to hold their breath waiting for the next moment.
Join Troy J. Peters, CTS as he tears down the walls that hinder our understanding of the technology and terminology to launch, orbit, and land the experiential event. Learn from Troy’s own struggles as an association event planner and how he overcame the misunderstandings, lack of knowledge, and challenges of not “speaking the talk.” Eventually Troy pursued his understanding of event technology by becoming certified as a technology specialist and even won an award by launching a tired and lackluster event at his association into the stratosphere. Using real-life examples complete with audio and video footage of his recent work as a Technical Director with presidents, CEOs, planners, and AV teams we’ll take the journey together and learn all the dangers and successes of the complete Live Event Experience.

This event tech session will identify apps to promote and organize your business and personal life in an efficient way! Bring your smartphones for the best apps ever! All app user levels are welcome. Through an informative and interactive 1 hour session Troy J. Peters, CTS will educate local event industry professionals on the tried and true applications available for the iOS (iPhone/iPad) Android and Windows phones that will help them in their day-to-day business of running and facilitating events.
The main points to be covered are:
- Time Management – How to plan your event using various time management & scheduling apps.
- Productivity – Presenting with your device through various Audio Visual Applications.
- Productivity – Managing client and supplier documents, signing BEOs electronically, and room layouts.
- Photography & Video – Best practices for recording your event and collaboration tools, and remote viewing.
- Travel – How to manage your travel and your attendee’s travel needs using your Smart Device.
