October President’s Message

TSK-FALL WINTER Digital-ad-300x600
It was great to see so many familiar and new faces at our 2017 AGM and fall kick-off event a few weeks back. We had a champions welcome to the reception thanks in part to the Ottawa Redblacks cheerleaders. The Member Programming committee went all out to provide a unique twist on the event and ensure that the first event of the season was one that created a buzz and got people excited for what is coming next. It was business as usual during the AGM portion, where our Past President, Ryan Young, reported on the many highlights of our 2016-17 year and Nicolaas Sont, CMP, past VP Finance, summarized the audited financial statements. If you want to learn more about what the Board of Directors were up to last fiscal year, a comprehensive 2016-17 Annual Report is available online. Should you have a comment or question about any of the information within the report or material presented at the AGM, please reach out to myself or our Chapter Administrator, Events & Management Plus.

As we get farther in to the fall our Board of Directors is already beginning to think of what our next season of programs will be. We will be meeting as a whole for two days in November to review and assess the goals of the chapter and how we plan on moving forward into the next program year under the leadership of President-Elect Greg Plazek in 2018-19.

Now that most of us are back in familiar routines, and trying to juggle the balance of family and work it’s important to understand all the resources we have available to us as professionals. Not only the support that our industry colleagues offer us personally but also the valuable opportunities to learn from one another professionally. Under the direction of Sandy Ouellette, Director of Education Programs, the committee has developed a program for the October education session that will give us tools that can be applied in real life. Plan to join your MPI Ottawa colleagues at the Centurion Conference and Event Center on Thursday, October 12 for “dinner for breakfast” and an informative and interactive educational experience. This “2 in 1” education session will help you to be more comfortable with various technical aspects used at your meetings, and you will learn how you can use the technology in the palm of your hand to help you with event facilitation.

Looking forward to seeing you at the next MPI event, and please feel free to reach out and introduce yourself (in person or by email). I would love to get to know more of our members.
